One world One promise - Scouting for 21st Century

Welcome to Griffithstown Scout Group Home Page

WINGS camp

Important information. Please see here

Griffithstown Scout group was founded in 1916.

Over the last 90 years it has prepared hundreds of children for many different walks of life.
Whilst the programme may have changed many times from Baden Powells original aims from
"Scouting for Boys", we ultimately try to prepare the children to be practical, honest, and tolerant of others whilst providing a fun-filled calendar of activities.

However it recieved its current home by a some serious fundraising by the group committee and a generous donation in 1968.

Meetings are on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday depending on the ages of the children and the group they attend.

MEETINGS

the next few weeks is

WORK PARTY

As you all know the scout hall is in
need of some major
replastering.
To do this we need volunteers who
are willing to give up about 2 hours
for a few evenings beginning
29th June.  We need to strip
off large portions of the
existing plaster and render so
we can get it repaired before
next winter.  If you are willing and
able please contact one of the leaders.  Remember - Many Hands
make light work.  Also if you have any part tins of white emulsion left
in your garage please feel free to donate them, we will use them

Activities

Whilst the majority of people outside scouting associate the activities with camping, hiking and other outdoor activities, the association has endeavoured to be inclusive in its programme.

Children of many different abilities are encouraged to "Do their Best" and achieve whatever they can.

To this end the programme is aimed at ensuring all children can achieve this laudible aim

 News and events

New Programme activities

2008/9 is the year everyone in scouting is going to try to put the OUT back in ScOUTing.

Whilst we realise that the weather in Wales is not always amenable to outdoor activities, the Scouting Association and local leaders are attempting to get more children involved in outdoor activities.  This is our aim also for 2008.  Keep an eye on the news pages for planned activities.

 Torfaen District AGM

Once again we were recognised for our attendance at district events.

Best Scout Group in Torfaen 2008

The majority of our news and events will be outlined on the News page with all the appropriate links and dates/times/locations

St Georges Camp 25-27th April
Islwyn Park

For once we didn't have our usual downpour.

Thank you to all those parents who helped us pitching tents on Friday and loading the van both days.  There were 200 children there over the weekend and they all enjoyed themselves with the varying activities.

Transporting children to and from scouting events.

Unless we hire mini buses or coaches, transporting children to scouting events is the responsibility of the parent or carer unless you have arranged with another parent to do this.  This is because all our own children are over the 1.35m (4 feet 5 inches) or 12 year age that requires children to have to use a booster seat and as a result non of us own one.  We don't want to prevent children from going on these events and if you are having difficulty please discuss it with a leader.  If there is adequate space and you want to loan us your booster seat we may be able to provide some limited transport.   If your child has grown out of the booster seat and you want to donate it to the group for future use please consider this.  Further information can be obtained from

http://www.childcarseats.org.uk/law/index.htm

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter
